A painted or epoxy-coated slab looks fine on day one, then starts showing tire marks, hot-tire lifting, and chipped edges within a couple of years. Because the color sits on top of the concrete instead of inside it, any wear works its way straight through to bare gray underneath.
Acid staining solves this at the chemistry level instead of the surface level: the color reacts with minerals already in the concrete and becomes part of the slab, so there is nothing sitting on top to chip, peel, or wear through.

Acid staining is not a coating. It is a chemical reaction. A water-based acid solution containing metallic salts reacts with the free lime in the concrete to create permanent, translucent color. The result is mottled, variegated, and rich, closer to marble, leather, or aged stone than paint.
Every job includes a test patch on an inconspicuous area first, so you see the actual color reaction on your own concrete before we commit to the full surface. Because each slab has a different mineral composition, no two stained surfaces look exactly the same.

How long does acid stain last?
The color chemically bonds to the concrete permanently. It cannot be removed. The sealer on top needs to be refreshed every 3 to 5 years, but the stain itself is for life. It will not peel, fade, or chip under normal conditions.
What colors are available?
The classic acid stain palette runs from amber, walnut, and terra cotta through blue-green and slate. Colors are never solid or uniform. The reaction creates natural variation. We show samples on a test patch before committing to any full pour.
Can you stain existing concrete?
Yes. Existing slabs can be acid stained as long as they are structurally sound and free of coatings, sealers, or excessive surface contamination. We evaluate the slab condition before quoting. Older concrete often takes stain beautifully.
